Kid's Books & Wellness

I found out a long time ago when my kids were young, that there were books we loved, and there were books that weren't worth the paper they were printed on. I started telling stories to my 9 children before they were born and as they were born. When I hear parents say, "My child isn't old enough to read yet . . ." I cringe. If you are not reading great books to your children before and after they are born, you are missing out on a wealth of knowledge and bonding with your babies.

One day I asked my oldest daughter what children's book was her favorite. I could think of Millions of Cats, or Dr. Suess, Oh The Places You'll Go, or Rainbow Fish, or what? She said, "Mom, my favorite book is A Princess, Dragon, & Baker! That is a book I wrote a long time ago, that most people still haven't heard about, because I have only sold them locally. It was the second book I wrote. But I had a lot of help from my family. On a trip to Idaho one day to see the folks I began an add-on story. Once upon a time there was . . . and each family member would add to the next part. I wrote it out and it became a hit in our house and in the neighborhood. $9.99. Third grade and under or for anyone who likes a fun story and especially for grandparents who read to their grandkids. This is not in Public Domain. Musical too.

When we got done with that first ROOSTER book that Jason and I wrote, I made a song to go with it. You can also purchase the sheet music with a violin overlay to it for $3.99. Then he said, "We forgot the rabbits, so, we made another book that became a bedtime story, Get Down and Boogie with Ralph Rooster. The original artist said he no longer did art, so Jeremy English created a fun different Ralph for this book. it is the same size. The Barn animals go dancing. $6.99. When you buy both of these books you can get them for $10.00. Written by Jason Kay and Tedi Wixom.

When Jason was four, he came from preschool saying, "Cock-a-doodle-doo, I Love You." After about 6 weeks I said, "Let's sit down and write a book." He chose his favorite barnyard animals and named them, then came up with Ralph Rooster who wakes up his barnyard friends. Illus. by Derek Lancaster. $6.99. Your kids won't let you read this only one time.
Stories about my mom and by my mom are the most important legacy that she could leave me. Oh Mother! Oh Father! 1947-1967 is book II in the Tragedies and Triumph's series. Lovina was born in 1917 in a two-room brick house that had been built around the turn of the last century. Her letters and artwork is pervasive in this volume. She loved children and was an inspiraton to all who stood encircled in her loving influence as art teacher, instructor, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society worker, daughter, sister, mother, friend, and neighbor. I would hope that all readers of this phenominal work that has taken decades to write, would feel the spirit of Elijah & write your own personal history. If you don't write it someone else will & it will be wrong. Lovina's personal letters are included in this book along with personal letters to her daughter Darlene when she lived in Detroit, Michicgan just out of college. $24.99. 420 p. 200 photos of family, friends, and Lovina's art. This title may also be purchased at www.byubookstore.com at YMountain Press. search books, then WIXOM.
